sparkplug gets black and dies

Hi!

I have a xt660x without any mods, I used to have pciii, but now the bike is almost stock.

Tps is on stock position and the co is at +10 from the stock reading.

The problem is that sparkplug nose gets black and dies every 3-4 months. In winter is worse the bike does not start in the morning if the spark plug is not new, but the bike starts eg in the noon.

My mechanic said propably I have to change the tps with a new one but I am not sure. Any ideas?

Also another question, if I change the speedometer with a new one or second hand, will I lose the ODOMETER reading?

have you applied the default forum mods?..installed Kev's mods? and aftermarket air filters?..

seriously tho if i was able to link you to the default mods I would..easily found on the forum.

Are you running a standard plug?..maybe go for a colder/hotter running plug(cat remember which way you need to go)..no doubt someone will be along to advise soon..

I haven't applied any mods.
I use CR7E sparkplug and the only filter I have changed is the one inside the box with a DNA one.

Personally I would search the forum for the free mods/adjustments and follow them to see if they make a difference..first.

A cooler running plug may help..

I know this is an old post but for future reference I had the same issue of blackening of the plug put a new plug in and all was fine for a few weeks then the plug was black again, I found out the was due to over fuelling because of the fuel injector being stuck open the cure was new injector or carb cleaner run through the injector hope this helps

Nice reply ...never hurts to run something like Redex or stronger through every now and again.
