New shock fitted, new problem!

So I've fitted my new YSS, and now when the bike is on the centre stand both tyres are touching the ground. Despite the shock being the the same size as the original, anyone else had this before? I had noticed it before on a few XTZ, this is on a XTR.

If it was alright before, then the shock must be too long, or possibly has been assembled without a topping out bump stop? I assume your stand has not been shortened, you have standard length dog bones and the tyres are the stock sizes?

I recall one case before (with a Nitron shock) where something like this happened (and additionally the spring made contact with the swingarm when topped out). This turned out to be down to Nitron supplying the wrong length shock. They sent a replacement and all was good.

Do/did YSS state what the eye to eye length of the shock is?

That's true. My Nitron shock was way to long so it hit the swingarm. Nitron solved it by sending a good one.

The shock appear indentical hole lengths, although not measured. Previously the rear wheel was sitting an inch or so above the ground. Dog bones are stock but the rear is running a 120/90/17.

All YSS said was designed for, I've noticed a change in ride height although not much 1 or 2 cm. no fouling anywhere.

You need to measure them both properly, there might some secrets in setting sus up but when it comes to fit that is very straight forward and even allowing for optical illusions the YSS looks longer to me.

Either get to long bolts in either end and measure with a vernier or a piece of steel bar that is the same size as the bolt holes and measure that.

Just as an after thought!! You sure you don't prefer it that way, easy to get clearance with something under the center stand when changing the wheel and will almost certainly have speeded up the steering.

Despite the slight length difference and slightly raised seat height I must say I'm really liking the shock, I was thinking of popping a 130/80 back on to see if there was enough of a gap on the stand. Or new dogbones to lower it.

I must of grown used to the very soft saggy factory shock (28k) because it does feel tall but that side of it could be the fresh spring. It feels sooo much nicer on the road.
