Anyone upgraded ABS tnr suspension?
Was thinking about getting some better springs/shock but since the ABS version has shorter suspension travel length, would it be worth it? I mean would one benefit sufficiently from the upgrade or would it be more like putting lipstick on a pig?
It seems the main alternativs for ABS tenere suspension is either the Hyperpro streetbox (500) or the FTX shock and Wilber fork springs (both from OTR about 650). Which would you recommend for a heavy (120 kg) guy? Being a tall ape-like creature (198 cm) I'm also interested in raising the bike. Have seen the linkage bones from OTR but was wondering if then it's also possible/necessary to raise the front? |

I am really interested in the topic, too. The ABS model is quite stiff and the front suspension does not provide confidence while riding or braking...
An upgrade is really on my wish-list! Any input, guys? Thank you!! |

There's not really a lot you can do with the ABS model cheaply or easily. The fork tubes are not long enough to run longer springs of gain any extra travel and the rear shock is a shorter stroke version. I would not advise raising links at the rear as you have no way of raising the front to match and you'll mess up the geometry and end up with a twitchy steering and a front end that will tip/dig in on corners.
If you seriously want to raise or improve the suspension on a 'ZA' model you are probably best sourcing a used set of standard length forks and linkage from a non-ABS bike and buy yourself some aftermarket fork springs and an aftermarket full-length shock. Or, if you have deep pockets, maybe a USB front end and fancy shock to match. |

Does anyone know what parts would I be needing? For sure, I would need to find a full front suspension system. Also, I will be needing a full rear shock system. Do I need other modifications? Has anyone tried this?? Thank you! |

If you do alot of off-road i woukd advise against ABS ....i rode a 701 husky last week offroad and ide say it was dangerous especially on decents as it felt like the front brake was non existent

Well, i do SOME off-road riding..
I always take my summer vacations with camping equipment with my wife. 2-up or she rides her own bike. Mostly fire-roads and some light trail. No jumps, no rock-climbing, no tree-logs jumping... The most use the XT660ZA gets, is daily commuting and 2-ups, on tarmac. That's all, but I find it very disappointingly set up for every day use. The front tyre jumps a lot on tarmac bumps and I feel like I cannot trust it on most situations. |
