XT660ZA flames from can
Hello guys!
I have Tenere ZA mod from 2013, 28 000 km on the clock. Great bike and I love it, but because I am bit heavy I needed more power. The ECU is stock, no PC. First I bought DNA air filter from OTR. Today I mounted MTC can, but with issues. When the popping sound happens it throws flames. What could be the problem and is there a problem? Could it be a low air-fuel mixture and is it possible to harm the engine? Or it is only because the MTC pipe is straight? If I return to stock air filter will it be better for the engine? Hi welcome too the forum.
My Tenere also sh*ts fire, has done for the last 50,000 miles. I personally like it, it wakes the car drivers up in the morning. ;-) i dont think it causes any harm as my engine is sweet as a nut and pulls like a freight train....... Literally! I think its something too do with the air whatsit thingy system. (emissions related i think). Someone with more knowledge than me should be along soon but i wouldnt worry about it.

Flaming exhaust(s) is/are normal. It is just unburnt fuel igniting caused by the introduction of fresh air at the exhaust ports downstream of the valves. The air induction system (AIS) and ECU controls this and opens a valve when the throttle is snapped shut, or the engine is on the overrun, or under cold start conditions. If you don't like the popping, banging and flames then it is very simple to block the AIS system's supply of air which originates from the airbox with no ill effects. Thank you for the help!
I was worried about something going wrong with air-fuel mixture because of the air filter and fitting open pipe. |
