Please help 'turning off' issue

Hello every one I'm having some trouble with my xt660r as I'm coming to a stop or slowing down for a turn the bike suddenly turns it self of but starts straight away only seems to happen on them occasions it's fine on the freeway any ideas will be much appreciated cheers

This is quite a common problem and is almost always caused by an idle speed that is too low.

Make sure your idle speed is set to at least 1450 rpm.

As you have an XTR, you will need to access the rev counter in the dash to set the idle. Read this thread:

Ok thanks mate I had a check I've turned the idle speed up by the screw with the Spring it's at 1550 and 1650 now if it's the one that's keeps changing fast haha sorry I'm such a noob

If raising the idle doesn't sort it then the other major culprits are:
  • Old, dirty, choked air filter
  • Old, gummed up, incorrectly gapped or poor quality spark plug (be wary that some NGKs are Chinese fakes!)

The other thing is, if you're new to singles (?), then you do have to remember they've only got one big piston and relatively hefty flywheel to keep them spinning at low revs and you have to adapt your riding style accordingly!

Ok well I can rule out the air filter as I just put a new k&n filter in so I'll look into the others thanks as I change down gears I do rev between not shore if that's what you mean hahah changing the spark plug is on the list to do any recommendations on brand and gap size
