Rear shock gets lower

Hi!

After 100000km, my bike is getting substantially lower. Maybe 5-10cm at the back. So, the shock is probably to blame.
Is there somehow a repair/service possible instead of a new one?

Is it leaking gas? A lazy spring?

My OE shock got to that stage before 20,000Km! The bike would barely stay on the side stand the shock was so saggy.

You can get them rebuilt, but in all honesty the Sachs item is/was a poor shock even new and factory fresh. Not really worth rebuilding unless your budget is really tight. You'd probably be better off finding a little extra money and investing in a good quality, proper, fully adjustable shock which is properly sprung and set up for your weight/loading/riding style.

Why not support your local industry in the Netherlands and get yourself a Hyperpro or Yacugar? They really aren't going to be more than EUR100 more than a fresh spring and rebuild of the OE shock. There are a fair few other options out there in prices to suit all budgets - Wilbers, Ohlins, Nitron etc. All better than a rebuilt Sachs!

As playades said i would also invest in a good/much better new rear shock - if you can't afford a new and good one - i could offer you to send my original one for the price of the transportcosts from Switzerland-Holland.
It had just 3'000 km's on it's clock - i've unmounted it immediately, when i was getting the machine.

But take the chance to make yourself a christmas-present.....

greets from the south

Andy

Andy, you are a great man. If you ever cross Macedonia, you will have free stay at my place and beer.

Thanks Petre for your grateful offer - my rear shock is laying around and if i can help someone with parts, that are just laying around, i prefer that to get nearly no money from an auction. Don't have actually planned a route to the Balkan....but i hope i'll find this post again, when it's coming.

I've mailed with Remco - @playades you was right: it's a rocked-down Oehlins (then 100'000 Miles could be real). He has now the servicepoints in Holland to do a revision of it.

greets, Andy

The rear shock on mine sagged so badly after only 4km miles I couldn't park it on a flat surface without it wanting to fall off the side stand. I had the spring replaced under warranty but the 2nd one started to do the same.

I ended up buying a replacement Hyperpro spring but never fitted it before I got rid of the bike. The spring is still sitting in my garage unused.
