DNA Filter set

Hi all,

I have the oppertunity to purchase a Yamaha XT660Z "Stage 2 DNA Air filer and cover & Stage 3 Fuel Mod + O2 Controller". Seems like a good deal.

At the same time, Ill be honest, this filter buisiness with the seperate stages is confusing me a little - from what I have read this set will give a decent performance boost, but can I add any other filter elements to the bike along side it, should I?

As I understood the stage 3 set replaces the entire airbox - how then can you use a stage 2, that sits inside the OEM airbox and 3 together?

Cheers!

You can fit a stage 3 filter (replaces the LHS airbox cover) alongside the stage 1 inner filter and stage 2 top (snorkel removed). You don not need to replace the airbox to achieve stage 3 on the Z (only on X/R models). I'd just fit the inner filter and top to achieve stage 3 to start with and see how you go. Leave stage 3 till you get bored with what you've got and want more!

Here's a rough guide to XTZ DNA filters (in pictures) which will hopefully make everything a little bit clearer:

= Stage 1

+ = Stage 2

+ + = Stage 3

Removing the snorkel effectively does the same job as fitting the Stage 2 DNA airbox top.

There is also a restrictor insert you can fit in the Stage 2 top cover to effectively make a Stage 1.5, which would be as far as you could go with out modifying the fuelling to suit by fitting either a Kev Mod or Power Commander.

You can't go to stage 3 without a power commander setup. It's an expensive route, although you could use my dyno map which would be similar. It's on the site in the supporters section.

It's worth it now that I've forgotten how much I paid for it!
