Finally made it!
Hello yet again.
Took delivery yesterday of my (new to me) 2009, Black Tenere with just over 11,900 on the clock. Swapped two bikes with Pidcocks at Long Eaton with a little cash back to me. Someone has spent a small fortune on this bike as it has the following mods: Givi engine and body bars, braided brake hoses, rear brake reservoir protector, adjustable levers (clutch and brake), GPS power take off, Puig high screen with wind deflector, SW Motec hand guards, radiator guard, lowered suspension, rear hugger, kev fuel mod and heated grips. I have today added an alloy sump guard and RAM mount. The handle bars are alloy and look new - not sure of the make but there is a small bat motif on the crossbar. Anyone recognise the bike? I had a good test drive before deciding to go for it. It had some rust on the spokes and disc bolts but everything else looked good. I checked for play in the steering and wheel bearings and gave it a good hour's blast up the A52 and back. It has a baglux tank cover but no bag - does anyone know what Bagster bag would fit? The fittings seem closer together than those on my old Beemer. I noticed some oil on the inside of the plastic sump guard which will be something to watch - could be just spillage or else a leak. Had some problem trying to turn the ignition on today....could not get the key to turn, wiggled the key and eventually got power but turned it back to off and could not get it to move again without another bout of wiggling. Eventually got fed up and rang the dealer, who suggested giving it a good douse of WD40 (I know!). Eventually I rang back and spoke to one of their mechanics who said he would look into getting a new barrel fitted. He later rang back to say he had looked on the internet (must have been on here) and suggested that I gave the lock a good squirt of contact/brake cleaner followed by drying out and then applying some graphite powder and he would phone me back after the holiday to see if it worked. Well, I have to say I was sceptical but followed the instruction - did not have any graphite powder but shaved a pencil lead and......it worked!! So this site has already proved its worth to me - thanks guys. I am going to put some puncture seal in the tubes tomorrow and take it for a long ride, if all goes well, on Monday Will post some pics when the weather improves! |

Glad you managed to get finally get yourself kitted out with a bike, and a good one by the sound of it. I wonder if it once belonged to a forum member? I guess we'll find out when you post some photos...
Before you go putting slime or similar in your tubes, just remember it can play havoc with wheel balance at higher speeds. |

Thanks
Thanks, chaps - will try and post some photos tomorrow. I'm using puncturesafe in the tubes - it's not like 'slime' as they reckon it will not cause balance problems and can be used safely in tubes - have a look at their technical section if you are interested :
www.puncturesafe.com (or it might be 'co.uk'!)

hi and welcome to the forum
the key barrel is a common thing, you will soon get use to doing the wiggley turn and it will become natural

Q - Does Puncturesafe cause out of balance problems? A - No! Puncturesafe cannot create an out of balance situation. If a problem exists then Puncturesafe may aggravate the situation, which acts as a safety warning alerting the driver that there is definitely a tyre, rim and/or suspension problem. No it cant Oh yes it does! Surely either it either does or it doesnt? If it can exacerbate a problem then equally, it can be a cause of a problem? So, both sneakily and rather cleverly, if you do get a balance problem, it isnt their fault but yours, or rather the bike! Then, somewhat spuriously, they pretend this is a built in safety feature! In the tech section, they weirdly contradict the above by claiming it can actually help dampen an out-of-balance wheel: An out of balance wheel rotates eccentrically, causing a dislocation of mass toward the centre of gravity, but away from the geometric centre of the wheel, producing vibration. In a well-balanced tyre, thixotropic sealant gels containing adhesion agents can dampen the occasional shudder or vibration because they are distributed by centrifugal force to the centre of gravity, causing the geometric centre and the centre of gravity to become aligned. I'm not sure if they know whether theyre coming or going on the balance issue? Doesn't exactly instill confidence. Their science is a little bit iffy too. The above statement referring to geometric centres and centres of gravity is odd. Dampening an out-of-balance rotating mass involves effectively moving the centre of gravity to the centre of rotation (geometric centre?) How is a gel/liquid is going to help do that when its and even film throughout (in a rotating tyre/tube)? it cant redistribute itself to one particular part of the tube/tyre to counterbalance and opposing mass? Or is it not an even film? In which case it will cause balance issues in the first place! Let us know how you get on with it... |

Hi, what can I say? I'm a social scientist not a physical one - I have used the stuff in other bikes and not had a problem, admittedly they had tubeless tyres but I will report back on the ten.
