Tenere Original Coolant?
Hi Guys,
I need to top up the coolant reservoir in my XT because it is very low. What is the original coolant used by Yamaha for the xt660z? I want to make sure I get the original because I don-t want to mix what is in my engine now with anything different. Can you suggest a link to buy it online? Thanks F |

Yamahlube coolant is just rebranded Motul Motolube which is readily available in diluted form on the web. Here's a link to some on ebay:

Thanks Pleiades you are always very helpful and knowledgeable. Would any Motul organic coolant do? This is what they suggest to use for the xt
https://www.motul.com/gb/en/products/oils-lubricants/motocool-expert but it is a hybrid not organic Last edited by Fra; 14-08-16 at 14:02. |

Either their 'Factory Line' (same as Yamalube) which is the recommended organic acid technology (OAT) coolant. Their Expert 'coolant' is a hybrid coolant and not suitable and will react if mixed with the original OAT coolant.
All you have to ensure when choosing a coolant is that is marked: 'Organic or OAT and borate and silicate free'. DO NOT use IAT (inorganic acid technology) or HOAT (hybrid organic acid technology) coolants and never mix OAT with either of the others. |

Hi Pleiades. I have got another question. I have decided to flush the system to avoid any sort of accidental problem / mistake. Is there any specific kind of distilled water that I am supposed to use?

You don't have to use distilled water. I do because I have free access to it at work and I live in an area where the tap water is hard, high in calcium carbonate (which is not ideal in cooling systems involving aluminium). If you have 'soft' tap water then just use that. If your water has a high mineral content then you could just get 5 litres of deionised water from a car parts shop. It's up to you - depends how fussy you are really. What you don't want to do is spend money on something that ultimately you are going to drain away after a short time. Many people would just use whatever comes out of their tap regardless.
