Low mileage bike - what to check

Hi all

Ive found a xt660z local to me for sale and it sounds great but it's a 59 plate and only 9k miles. Although it's had a service I think it's been sat there still for most of its life.

Apart from giving it a service , what other things on the bike are likely to have deteriorated in that time and need replacing or at least checking out?

Cheers

I'd check the Cush drive. Grab hold of the rear sprocket, give it a wiggle to see if there's any play there.

Change the fluids, change the oil and air filter, and don't worry about anything else until 20,000 miles.

If you're really concerned, change your hoses (brake and coolant) since these should be replaced after 3 years under 'normal' conditions...

But 9,000 miles in 6 years is not normal.

Sod it, strip it down and grease the hell out of it.
Steering head bearings, swingarm and linkage.

Change the wheel bearings.

Give it a cuddle.

Whatever makes you feel better.

Honestly, you won't have any issues with this bike until at least 20k when the head bearings go.
