Starting problem

Hi folks - advice sought.

My Ten has become moody the last 2-3 weeks. And sometimes it wont start.
I turn on the ignition on and lights comes on as normal in the dash and it "buzzes" for a second or two just like normal. But when I hit the starter button its dead - nothing happens, no clicks or others. Its like the kill switch is on - but it isnt. And it has also cutted out ans stopped a few times just after I started riding. Battery is fairly new - 8 months so that should be ok.

I guess there must be a loose connection somewhere - but where should I start to look? I thought it might be the sidestand switch so I got a friend to help disconnect the switch and connect back the two wires - and for a short while I thought the problem was sorted. But it isnt - its still the same. Any thoughts and advices much appriciated...

Thanks in advance!

Probably worth checking the clutch and neutral switches operate properly (as well as the side stand switch). Also check their connectors too. If it got better when you bypassed the sidestand switch, but the trouble came back again, it might be that you disturbed some damaged wiring/loose connector at the same time.

By any chance will it start if you pull the clutch in?

It does sound very much like something in the start inhibit system causing the problem, which all of the above three switches play a part in.

Got help to open the starter and kill switch button today - as several suggested that it could be something wrong there. Seemed normal in there. Cleaned out a tiny bit of dirt and sprayed with silicone spray and test started it 50-60 times and it did fire up every time totally normal. But for how long?
