The rubber intake tube from throttle body to head isn't going to affect oil consumption at all. Fuelling yes, but not oil consumption.

Looks like you've a combustion leak and gases are escaping into the crankcase or oil getting into the combustion chamber. Could be you've got case of perhaps worn of broken piston rings or maybe a worn (or burnt) valve and/or valve guides. A compression test would be a very good starting point before delving any further.

Yeah, that was what I figured as well.
Weird that it has to be me that tells the mechanic to do it.
But yeah the intake tube wasn't to fix the oil consumption, but to fix the erratic idle and misfires, but sadly that wasn't the issue.
