And then I cried!!
Hi Guys,
I could really do with some help! Long story short, for the last year i've been unwell and unable to ride my xt660z so its been sitting in the garage. I kept the battery alive but when i went to ride the bike the clutch plates had stuck (no suprise!). Being a complete noob i decided to take clutch apart clean plates and put back.....this is the sad part. when tightening the spring clutch bolts i have managed to shear off one of the bolts (torque wrench now in bin). Can someone advise what is my next option is please? swearing and shouting unfortunately had no effect upon making the situation better. Regards Neil. |

Option 1 - take the sheered parts to a metal worker see if he can make a new one or weld the broken one.
Option 2 - take the sheered parts to an official Yamaha dealer and ask them to find out the part number and order one. Option 3 - call all your local bike breakers see if they have a moody engine you can buy for spares. Option 4 - keep effing and blinding to yourself in the mirror it's good for the soul |

Thanks for the reply Captmoto,
I'm thinking i may have to buy new Boss clutch, think that's what i need as the bolt has sheared of and the rest of it is still in there and I cant the remainder out (the most expensive part of course). God Damnit, swearing used to solve everything when i was younger. Regards Neil. |

Add some alcohol in between the swearing, preferably from a glass, as it can be smashed when empty to relieve hyper frustration....

so you have sheared one of the 6mm spring bolts ??
If so mate it's no big drama... remove the clutch hub... drill the sheared bolt with a 3mm drill down it's centre around 10mm deep... get a set of easy outs... screw the size that fits into the hole you have drilled... "easy outs are a left hand thread is oposite to the bolt... when they come tight they the unscrew the broken bolt... heat the alloy around the broken bolt just before you use the easy out it will come out easyer..a lot easyer... I know sounds complex but it's not really... i know easy to say.... Ps.. yer could do it with out removing the clutch hub... just remove the presure plate & clutch plates.. Make sure the drill swarf dosn't get in the motor... heaps of rags packed around the clutch.... grease on the drill to pick up the swarf.... .. ..

Thanks for the help and advice all,
I will try and go for the option of easy outs to get the bolt removed, Yes it was the 6mm spring bolt that sheared and I really could do with out the expense of buying a new boss part as they are the best part of 140.00...ouch that wouldn't leave much to spend on alcohol either!! regards. |

I've never tried easy outs but I've had success in the past with left handed drill bits. Good luck.
