replacement exhaust

Hi I am considering replacing myTenere exhaust after reading the reviews on the forum I have narrowed it down to two, the Exan black or the leo vince twin pipe my question is how loud are they on mid throttle? Decades ago I had Kawasaki Z650 with a Piper 4 into 1 exhaust, the sound was orgasmic but on motorways the sound used to bounce off the Armco barrier and give me a headache. At 60 ish mph are they loud and tiring on normal roads and do they tend to attract the attention of the police?

TBH, the Exan single can system is not loud at all (with baffles in). It gives a decent bark on full throttle, but on the cruise at part throttle openings is very polite sounding, not at all antisocial. It is a different story altogether with the dB killer removed!

As for the Leos, I have no experience.

Jacques is probably the best person to get advice from, and a comparison between the two you mention, as he has had both the Leos and the Exan fitted to his Tenere.

Noise what noise?

Hi, I have just changed from Leo Vince twins to a single Exan silencer. I loved my Leo Vinces (they had DB plates in), def added power to my bike, but a bit louder than the Exan. I still don't understand how the Exan can be so small, light and Quiet! To be fair, I'd be dead happy with either and only changed as I got the Exan for a bargain and saved a (teensy weensy bit of) weight. Either are much better than stock IMHO. On top of that you don't have to change anything further. Just bolt it on and away you go.

Z650...? Exhaust. ..? Just by coincidence I have just sold my 'project ' Z650BI in order to fund a new exhaust system for the Ten. It's been under a tarp for 15 years...it was never going to get done! By the way, friend Jo has an MTC exhaust and is very pleased with it. Steve

I have considered an MTC exhaust they are based about 10 miles from me but the general opinion is they are too loud, with luck somebody may have an MTC fitted at the meet in May.

Your Z650 looks like the front end was not stock. I bought my Z650 b2 brand new for 1499 it was a red v reg with spoked wheels and a single front disc this model had the larger 26 mm carbs and went like a rocket. it was faster than the 1000cc Z1R to 90 mph, the highest speed I got out of mine was a true 131 mph racing a Z1000 down the hill from cregneybar on the Isle of man. I calculated the speed using the rpm versus speed graph from the road test in motorcycle mechanics. ( I had gone through the rpm red line and out the other side at the time). God I loved that bike.

My hearts set on the Scorpion system. ...although I should really put that amount of money towards a decent rear shock!, it will all get done gradually as time and money allows. Like you say, it will be interesting to check out the various exhaust systems at the Anniversary meet. On the Z650 subject I also had a new 'V' Reg and loved that bike! Steve

No problem Keith, best is to hear for yourself. One persons noise is another's music. And I must confess my hearing is probably not the best. See you in 3 weeks time! Have a nice ride south.
