Time to say goodbye
...to my OE Yuasa battery.
It’s served the Ten well having lasted just shy of eight years, but it’s now noticeably laboured when starting the bike on a cold morning or if she's not been used for a few days. I guess I could have made the battery limp on a bit longer by keeping it on the Optimate, but what with the camping season ahead and travelling further afield, the need for reliability realistically means it’s got to go. Although I’ve nothing against Yuasa batteries, I’ve decided to replace it with an AGM Motobatt equivalent (MBT9B4) mainly because it’s considerably cheaper at 45, 25% less than the 60 Yuasa. However, the Motobatt does have a few other plus points: It produces a genuine 9Ah (Yuasa is 8Ah); the cold cranking amp rating is 140 (Yuasa’s CCA is 115); and everyone who’s tried a Motobatt on the forum seems to sing its praises, so I thought I’d give one a go. All I can say at the moment is it starts the bike better, but then you’d expect it to – it’s a new battery! The big test will be to see if the yellow one will last better or worse than eight years… |

That's an impressive length of time your battery lasted...I wonder if as more and more use of Led's as lighting becomes the norm, with their low use of battery power will batteries last longer or become smaller. I guess they will have to be strong enough to start the bike. Steve

That's exactly what worries me about the change in loyalty, and why I'll reserve final judgement until the Motobatt has died. It needs to last at least six years to break even.
