xt660x set up help
Hi all
just bought an xt660x as my second bike. just for trips round the highlands of Scotland (take up in the van) and the odd blat on the twisties in the winter (my fz1 is to good to take out over winter). so will not get lots of use. i have added all the normal mods stage 1 & 2 DNA filters, after market cans, kev mod and o2 sensor (not ridden the bike yet lol). just thinking for dropping the front sprocket down one tooth. has anyone got a good sprocket set up they have used. just waiting for some new rear sprocket rubbers i noticed a bit of play in the rear sprocket,a bit more than i was happy with. just trying to make sure i can get the best out of it. any advice would be good as not ridden a big single before, race bikes are my thing cbr 954 and so on, so am sure i am going to have a shock when i get out on it. its a 2011 bike. thanks in advance for any help. |

I'd ride the bike for a while and then fit a PC there's a major difference.
Drop the forks through the yokes 7mm. Don't bother with the gearing I found a 14t front sprocket shortened it too much, get the bike running right and you'll never need first gear, the only time I use it is when I drop into it by mistake. Change the bars to Renthals a far better shape so more comfortable. Fit a cheapo mirror on the end of some hand guards, cleans the lines up no end. Strip as much junk off as you can including rear foot pegs and I gained a lot with a lithium battery. Change the indicators their pants. Chop the rear end off and fit a tail tidy their are various. |

thanks mate for the info. will drop the forks asap should make the steering 100 times better, forgot about that as i always jack my bikes up to sort out the steering. but no need with this as i can only just touch the floor (5,11). have been looking for the tail tidys but not seen many? need to get some now tyres as well need to check whats best for these as want them to worm up fast but do not want to keep doing tyres every 1500 miles or so. mad to get out and give it a go but its still wet and ice on the roads. and the bike i bought only has 4000 miles and not a mark on it, and engine paint is spot on bike looks new (2011) and i have OCD and keep all my bikes mint and i mean mint so do not really want to kill the condition of it, it was the best i could find in 5 months of looking , and i looked at every one that came up for sale, and viewed 10 or so but not up to my standard.and i got it at a really really good price.hope to get out next week. just hope i do not hate it. as i do ride fast. just have to remember its a different style of riding lol. thanks again for the info it all helps.

I haven't gotten more than 1600 miles out of a rear period and even then it took a Road Smart to manage that,I use a Sport Smart on the front.
In 8000 miles it's done 4 fronts and 6 rears including the one that's on. Oh I forgot the rear brake lever!! You can ajust it so all you have to do is breath on it and you can lock it solid which gives you a huge amount of control. Oh and the front brake I put a radial brake lever and an EBC disc on. Tail tidy? Look on eBay. And if anyone ever puts an Ohlins shock and a proper pair of Marchesinis on here I'm all ears. |
