blown gear box

Gday from Down under
Dear readers & fellow riders.
I am new to this forum but not new to bikes especially Tenere`s .
I am Australian who lives in Oz and keeps one of my bikes in Ireland (Cork ).
Each year I spend as much of your summer riding through Europe.
Oscar, my European steed is a 2011 Tenere 660 with a bunch of great work done to it, WP front end, single disk, Wilburs shock. Willies wheels with Talon hubs. Just to name a few of the mods.
I love my bike & am looking forward to ( hopefully) spending May June in Ireland & the South of France then returning in mid to late September to ride through Romania. Parking the bike at Motosapians for a rest.
Sadly last year my bike stopped in Switzerland & was had to be shipped back to Ireland.
My mechanic has just pulled the motor out this week & discovered the gear box looks like a grenade went off
He is a Yamaha dealer & has quite a good reputation for working on bikes. However as the Tenere is not sold in Ireland he has never worked on one (except for mine).
I am seeking advice in regards to a mechanic in the UK who can rebuild my gear box and possibly fit an after market piston etc .. depending on extent of damage to bottom end .
The whole engine would be shipped to them possibly minus the top end as my mechanic has said he cannot find anything wrong with it and it was running when it stopped moving just making a very loud noise.
Any advice and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards Scott Douglas

Hi Scott. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

At the moment I am in discussions with Yamaha about this very problem. It would be really helpful if you could have a look at and respond to my request for information in this thread:

Hi Scott, bummer about your gearbox. ...we all like to think of our Tenere's as unbreakable! . Hopefully Pleiades will have some info. It's not particularly relevant, but if when your in West Cork you need help or advice there's a guy called George in Skibereen who has a place called South Coast motorcycles. ..it's small place but super friendly and knowledgeable. ..one to remember if your in a jam! Hope you get the Ten sorted. Steve

I know lads who can do the gearbox and engine but by the time you have shipped it both ways plus parts you'll be talking big bucks even if labour and parts are cheap postage won't be.

See what your man on here can do but when it come to dealing with the Japs I wouldn't go holding your breath,I'd put most of my efforts into looking for another complete motor.

So that will be your end and.
