Running rich... why?

Recently diagnosed that my relatively new (2nd hand bike) with 8000 miles is buring oil. Took it to a rolling road and discovered its burning the oil on the overrun. Now Im not an expert in this but the guys helping me out decided this is what is happening and could not think why??? jap engines are usualy spot on! right?

Any way Il be stripping the head (with help) and getting the valve seals checked and replaced if necessary and also have everything else checked while shes opened up.

Ive also put some leo vince cans on and will soon hopefully do the fuel mod.
However (as I have mentioned before) it seems to be running slightly rich already. pretty heavy soot and smells pretty rich too. (but the plug is pretty clean)

The fuel mod will only make it richer?
Not really sure what steps to take to get it running as best as possible.

Anyone care to attempt to educate me would be fantastic

How is the oil level, is it over full?

Did they confirm on the Dyno that the bike is running rich as in A/F ratio?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I was not there. My father took it to see has friend at sammy miller's. Not sure exactly what they did but the mechanic said it was running a bit rich.
As for the oil level it's been varied lately due to the bike burning oil. Just rode it across spain and did close to a liter of oil.
