Exhaust wrap....?

Seeing so many bikes with exhaust wrap I wondered what benefits there might be to wrapping the header pipes on the Tenere....there seems to be conflicting opinions on what good it does.....? Steve

Not sure about it on bikes? I think it's mostly a styling exercise - seems to have become very popular with the "Steampunk" fraternity.

Makes sense on a car as it theoretically keeps engine bay temperatures down - not really an issue on a bike. Also the wrap stays dry on a car. It quickly turns to a cr@ppy looking mess when exposed to rain, mud etc. It's also an absolute nightmare to remove if you change your mind.

Also knowing how the headers can corrode on these things I would be inclined to coat them with some exhaust paint first to seal them. As you may find them disintigrating under the wrap.

Best way is to take it off but I use this kind off tool when I got the exhaust off. It is almost like new!

if you wrap the manifold, then you affect the cooling of the engine as you block the heat they dissipate.

I am not sure if this provides any protection when exposed to the elements. High temp paint would be my choice

Wrapped headers would give higher exhaust temp and with that higher exhaust velocity. A well known mod. But when wet, it's hard to get temp up because of soaked exhaust wrap. Wouldn't effect engine heat much more than what heats comes from better combustion.

Exhaust rap is a "look" thing these days..."but not much of a look"
but the preformance idea behind it is..
keep the heat in so the exhaust gases are hotter
hot gas is thin gas & thin gas flows faster...
Another pay off is a cooler engine bay...
