5 day high country trip

Evening All

Been a while since I last posted :-(

Anyway... I've booked myself into this http://maschine.com.au
TransTerra 2015

It's only 5 days and they carry all luggage so that's a nice plus.

Still gotta be self sufficient on the track with fuel, water, food and spares etc.

I've purchased a Tough box which I'll mount onto the rear rack and carry everything in.

2 questions:

1) How to carry extra fuel? I've got a 1 litre stainless bottle for emergency but being round it's an awkward shape
2) what sort of basic spares should I carry?
I'm thinking .. A set of levers and shifter as basic.. Any thing else?

Given that there is a backup truck it's not so bad but they obviously only carry basic/generic stuff them selves

Any advice appreciated

Thanks
Marc

Looks like a good trip out. Always liked the look of the NSW high country from the videos I've seen.

As for fuel, 2l plastic mini jerry cans are quite handy and easy to strap down, especially if you make/buy a securing plate. Otherwise a Rotopax setup is the way to go, but pricier obviously.

Spares is an interesting one - where do you stop when drawing up a list? Youre probably unlikely to wear anything out in 5 days (providing its not on its last legs already), so no need for throttle/clutch cables etc. Spare tubes and levers are a good idea though. Youve just got to think carefully about what accidental damage might prematurely end your trip. Personally, I would always take a few metres of 16.5A cable, fuses, some Scotchloks, terminal blocks and insulating tape etc. Just enough stuff to sort out an electrical fault, like for example bypassing a knackered clutch or side stand switch they are simple things but can result in a non-runner/non-starter.

Top of my list of spares is always a sh!t load of cable ties!

2l fuel

Thanks Pleiades

I checked out those 2l fuel containers .. I will be ordering one

Another good idea on the spare electrical stuff..

Yeah hopefully not much to go wrong on 5 days and there is a backup truck

Had the bike for a few years now but this is the first time I'm using it for what its meant for.

Great wealth of info on here...

Thanks

Marc
