..and what are the results? What do you reckon? Easy to use? Is it a worthwhile mod?

Yes, it is easy to use and worthy should you travel long distances, overland or across Europe. IMO the best (or safest) way to use it not to completely lock the throttle but to let it slowly unwind when you let go the handle bar. However on long motorway stretches you can lock the throttle and let it do the job by itself. The thing is that the thread of the "lock nut" is reversed and works for releasing the locked throttle whenever you need by just turning back the twist to release. Handy. Many ways to use it. The whole thing weighs around 200 grams which is pretty good bar end by itself

As an actual cruise control its rather limited as it will allow the bike to speed up going down hill and slows going uphill, obviously. I find the best is as described by Assenvas, screwing it up to remove some of the throttles return to idle allows a much lighter throttle grip which on long runs prevents any numbness whatsoever. If I need a good stretch of the hand, just grip with the little finger and roll down tightens it up more and I can release the hand completely. Coast into a town and simply roll the throttle up while gripping the lock with little finger and it releases. If I have drag locked on and pass through a speed change then dont grip with the little finger, simply roll throttle up to desired speed and then once the limit increases....roll down again. Has increased long trip comfort unbelievably and if offroad, it stays out of the way and I make sure I lock it on the off position with a little finger grip-roll. There is no way you could lock the throttle so that backing off was not possible as the resistance is just side loading the throttle tube. Although in the unlikely event of dropping the bike with it locked on, at least we know the XT would cut out anyway as the drop switch would kick in. The listed one for XT660 fits perfectly with stock bars and/or stock yamaha guards, if you run barkbusters you need to machine up a spacer to fit inside the end of it. If you run other bars, then you contact the distributor for the correct lock for that design. Matt. |

One little thing we have missed here: as far as I know it is illegal for road use in Germany.
German friends, can you please advise on the matter?
