Tenere 660 - first bike

Hey everyone, how are you?

I would like to ask you a question, do you think a tenere could be a motorcycle for someone who only has experience on 200cc occasional rides?

I would like to go from a 200cc/400cc dual sport bike, and then get the tenere, but here in Mexico, buying and selling bikes is quite difficult, I would have to spend lots of money (they are expensive, take months to sell, then sold really cheap), that's why I'm thinking about having the bike that I really dream of and if it's possible, learn to ride it with a lot of care and patience. So what do you think?

BTW I'm 1,82m tall, one of my concerns is the seat height.

Thanks for your time, I really appreciate.

Hi there! Of course you could have the tenere as a first bike, there is no reason not to apart from it takes a little while to get used to the weight and height. They are not that powerful - if you wanted a gsxr1000 as a first bike I'd advise getting experience on something less dangerous first!

As for the height, there are lots of options for lowering the bike that don't cost a lot of money and are easily reversed when you want to sell it. Do you have any option to buy a bike in another country and import it secondhand to save some money?

Go for it!

David

Welcome on board mate.

FYI I'm also 1.82m (6 foot) and seat height has never been an issue. There are many many riders on this forum much shorter than you that get on perfectly well with the Tenere's standard seat height.

Everything else about the XTZ is ideal for a first bigger bike. If you want one, then get one!

Thanks to both of you for the time

David:

Yeah, I have, specially having the US as my neighbor, but you see, Mxico City is far from the border, it would take around 2 or 3 days, and well, to be honest, with the situation of the country, could be dangerous and expensive, although it would be cool to ride it all the way down from California, through Baja, and the center of the country, awesome places for sure, but I lack of experience haha

Pleiades:

Its good to know Ive seen short people riding really tall bikes, theyre fine but they also tell you is because of experience, but anyway I guess Ill be just fine.

Thanks

Gabriel.
