Engine management light

Hi everyone...
So after a good month or so after fitting the kev mod and dna 2 filter, which seemed to help some of the surging and pretty much eliminate the dreaded stalling at lights and junctions there seems to be a new problem.

Not sure if it's related but the dip beam stopped working on the way home leaving me with main beam which lasted about 10 miles before giving up..... since then the engine management light flickered on and off intermittently but not consistently, although maybe when under acceleration. She's been to the local yamaha dealer who plugged the special device in and said it has lots of strange codes displayed. So strange he's had to contact yamaha who are going to get back to him..... although the hint is that it may be something to do with the fuel injection.....

Anyone any ideas or experienced similar?

Thanks

There's a big clue in what you say...

It is almost certainly a loose connection/poor contact on one of the FI sensors. Now I, and a few others have expoerienced something similar which was down to an iffy connection between the Kev Mod and the IAT sensor. Check the connector block and make sure all four terminals are making good contact, if you soldered it into the wire, then check your joints.

Usually if this happens you get a error code 22. Try turning the ignition on and seeing if you get the light up. If not. Try wiggling the connector for the Kev Mod, see if it comes on.

When my Z showed this issue, just like yours it came on when accelerating at first as the inertia was just enough to break the connection. Eventually it did it all the time and showed an error 22.

Now, it could be another sensor, but the IAT/Kev Mod connector is where I'd start. After that I think I'd be inclined to check all the other connectors.

There is a slight chance that it could be the regulator/rectifier unit (or more likely its plug) that's failed/failing. This might explain your lack of headlight(s). Is the bike charging? Have a look in the reg/rec plug - are the terminals in good nick? It was a common fault on early 2008/9 Teneres, not heard of it on an X, but worth a check?

Anyway, hopefully that's given you something to investigate...

Cheers Pleiades

No I didn't solder the kev mod. In fairness it was a struggle to get it screwed in. It's defiantly not the best connection but I've had a new headlight bulb put in and it works fine again.
I'll pass the info on to the garage and hopefully they can check those issues.
The bikes been charging fine and had no issues with starting it.
I'll keep the post updated if/when the garage finds the problem

Thanks
