KTM / WP shock for Tenere

Hi,

I was just looking what shocks are available for Tenere and found out very cheap shock from KTM 990 adv 2007 which has got hydraulic preload and all needed adjustments .

Looked like this for half the price:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-KTM-990...f965e4&vxp=mtr

Some issues:
- controls are on side of shock which I suspect will not fit on Tenere,
- size matters so I would need to find out precise lenght of it,
- attachment point in KTM looks like it does not have linkedge bones like Tenere. So its maybe different charasteristics/force ratio and therefore spring of shock.

KTM 690 has some kind of linkedge connected to shock so thats possible donor.
Therefore I'm quite tempted to look for some used WP shock from bigger KTM like 690/990 and use it on Tenere.

Any additional advice / knowledge much appreciated.

Looks like a good shock but I think you're going to run into too many problems to make it worthwhile, most of which you've already highlighted.

Is the length right?
What's the spring rate? Is it suitable? What linkage/rising rate is it designed for?
What's the travel? Too long/too short?
Will it clear the hollow in the swingarm?
Is the reservoir going to get in the way?
Are the mounts at each end suitable?

On the surface it seems as though the answer to most, if not all of the above, is no.

It's a nice idea, but in practice I think it'll be cheaper to buy a correctly sprung Tenere-specific shock off the shelf.

Of course, with the will to succeed and a bit of lateral thinking and the right know-how/skills, anything can be made to work, but it's going to cost money and time.

Pleiades you are correct that it would cost too much time to figure out all things unless you have somebody who did this already with success.
I think I will go for TFX as I like that they can do shock exactly for your specs as Jaume did.

Almost any aftermarket can make one to fit. It's just a matter of willingness of the dealer you're going to.
I have a WP which is a one off. I know hyperpro can do it also. And usually nitron is known for customs as well
