Trip to Southern Ireland from England

I'm basically planning a short trip next month from England to ride around Southern Ireland. Simple ride to Holyhead ferry then ride and camp around various places.

Do I need travel insurance as a UK resident?

Cheers, Daz

Hi darling, I go to Southern Ireland every year and have never taken out travel insurance...you have a level of health care as it's in the EU, but if you have expensive camera gear etc, worth checking that's covered. Steve

You don't need specific travel insurance but it's no harm letting your motorcycle insurance company know you are taking the bike over here. Please be careful where you park your bike - we have had several high profile cases of fully loaded bikes being stolen because they had been left unlocked in urban no-go areas. If you want my route suggestion it would be to meander through county wicklow, via Roundwood, Avoca and Blessington into County Wexford and then hug the coast around to Hook Head get the Ballyhack ferry to County Waterford. If you want something a little more scenic head west and ride as much of the Wild Atlantic Way as possible.

Thanks for the advice.
I've let my insurance know and they've said i'm covered withing my 90 days european cover. I'm going to buy a standalone RAC European cover also just in case. My dad is coming with me on his new Triumph XC so i've advised him to buy the same.

We will be doing the Holyhead to Dublin crossing then turning left down to camp in Wexford the first night then on from there. Riding the Atlantic coast sounds good then a finish in Dublin for a night before coming back. I just want to go but need to plan properly.

Pm me for any specific local questions and if you are going through Wexford call to Overlanders shop in Gorey.
