Akrapovic for the Tenere and running lean
My dealer is going to fit Akrapovic titan mufflers for me. Is it enough to adjust for higher CO value to avoid it running lean?

I ordered the Yamaha accessory Akrapovic on my Tenere originally. I ran them for 18 months on a totally stock bike without any problem. The bike will not run lean with a standard airbox and filter.
The Akrapovic system offered by Yamaha isn't really much more free-flowing than the stock system. It has twin catalysts and quiet/restrictive dB killers. It is designed to run on a perfectly standard bike without fuelling changes. Changes to the air intake are much more significant than exhaust/silencer mods when it comes to fuelling. BTW, changing the CO setting will only affect the A/F ration at tiny throttle openings <2% and really won't make any significant difference to how the bikes feels/runs. |

Do that apply even running without db killers? I have considered running a K&N filter also to have a little better low end register. Did you experience any Improvements With Akrapovic only? Regards Vidar |

For most of the time I had them fitted I ran them without dB killers without modification, although I actually found it pulled more smoothly lower down with them in. The Akras sounded OK without dB killers to start with, but got louder as time/Kms went by, meaning that the dB killers had to go back in to keep things polite.
I have to say that even a totally stock bike responds well to more fuel. An O2 controller and fuelling mod makes a huge difference to the usable spread of power. Well worth doing IMO anyway, regardless of what cans/filters you're running. If you do fit a K&N, then I would certainly recommend fitting the fuelling mods, if nothing else, to make the most of the extra air. |

Tanks for quick replies Pleiades.
Think ill fit a Power commander when later on giving more free air flow. Did the Akras With DB killers sound better Than stock muffler? Regards Vidar |

Yes. But I did (in the end) drill out each one of the holes in the dB killer inserts and made them all slightly bigger.

Push comes to shove, I guess you could use a dremel to open the seams of each bellows, remove the cats and re-tig it back together..... Last edited by justgjt; 25-08-18 at 12:16. |
