I tried in my clumsy way to thank Steve. That ride was incredible. The views and setting beyond words. Very very good weekend. Sadly weave Steve got another flat back strangely enough in bleneu ffastiniog. That place has a jink on it. We limped on for another 50 miles. Found that a spoke had snapped and a bit still in the wheel. So Steve bravely said good bye to us and phoned the RCA. His near a campsite and at a garage shop with air

I arrived home at 2257.
The tyre slime / CO2 cartridge combo was working well until we ran out, so we garage-hopped, topping up the pressure until eventually we realised just how long it would take to get home, stopping every 20 miles!

I called the RAC and sent the other lads on their way. (Jacques, John, Shane)

Waited for 90 mins while I enjoyed a big breakfast and read my book in the sunshine with some nice views.

The breakdown guy they sent me wouldn't recover me 180 miles home.
He said I'd have to prove the vehicle couldn't be fixed at roadside, so I explained that we would have to break the bead somehow, then find the cause of the puncture, then find an inner tube, then re-fit the tyre, then he'd have to follow me to be sure I was safe.

His next bright idea then was to dump me in Machynnlleth where there would be a bike shop open in the morning, and for me to sort out my own accommodation.

Understandably, I wasn't having any of this.

I had a brain wave... 40 miles away was the Yamaha Tnr off-road riding school.
I phoned them, they'd just got back from a day out riding and said I should bring it up. We loaded Thumper onto the truck and drove 40 miles to Llanidloes.

As we arrived, there were 3 guys outside the farm, washing down 16 WR250s and 5 Tnrs!

A few minutes later, I was off the truck and in the workshop where it took 3 of us stamping on the tyre to break the bead.

Found the offending culprit, a big pointy nail. No spoke damage, just an empty socket where a spoke should be... Dunno where that is!

He had a spare 18" tube which went in and within 20 minutes I was on the road.
Bit wobbly with the 18" tube in there, but I managed the 180 miles home no problem.
The last bit of the journey (A40, M40) I did a constant 80 miles an hour, pretty fed up by then. - that's GPS 80mph, not dashboard!

But home and safe and although a little piece of bad luck befell, I can't forget what a bloody awesome weekend it was!

Thanks to everyone and it was brilliant meeting you, putting names to faces and realising we're all as mad as each other.

Happy trails,
Steve.
