Unhappy Insurance in London around 1000

So living in London, my insurance was already high enough at 600 last year (first year insuring in the UK / French license), but the auto policy renewal this year has charged me just over 1000 through Bennets.

This is for a 2009 XT660X with Akrapovics attached.
What are people usually paying in London for a bike like this?

I know if I change my license over to a UK one, then the quote goes down to 700.... but then I can't use my passport for 4 weeks so kind of stuck till after the bank holidays.

If I fit the the Power commander I have, it essentially makes me uninsurable.

Not even sure what the question is here. Just thought I'd ***** about it.

Holy sh*t! What insurance rates do you guys have in the UK? I pay around 70,- Euro p.a.. And every necessity is covered.

It's not all that bad here. 1000 is the exception, not the norm. It depends very much on circumstance. Mine is just 62/year fully comprehensive, but then I'm knocking on a bit, have a clean licence, full no claims, a "safe" job as far as insurers go and live deep in the Norfolk countryside where some folk have webbed feet and still marvel at the miracle of running water and electricity!

I knew London was expensive, but 1000! Thats 10x my insurance, and I don't live in the sticks, only 90 miles out. I presume thats parked in the street with a high burglary record. True, my bus pass is not that far away, but that is crazy.

London is high risk with good reason, which means sad outcomes for me. Accident rate is high; theft is high. It's just a pain is the ass really, and barely justifiable to have a bike here. It WAS a commuter, but now I work from home so that reason isn't a big one.

I will be using it for some backroad adventures soon with the girlfriend. Not going to sell it just yet. Just heat tested the new pannniers against the Akra's and it seems they don't get hot enough to melt.

Strangely I am going down the same road. I have not bothered with pannier frames for my wolfman soft bags. My leo vince cans don't seem to get that hot. I will find out soon how wise that decision has been

Bennett's won't actually insure me, due to the number of modifications.

I live outside London, in the country, garaged overnight, 3 years no claims, aged mid thirties and it's 220 fully comprehensive through Wicked Quotes.

Declare all modifications to your insurers or you are effectively un-insured.
