Fitting Adventure Spec Tenere Bashplate to XT660R

Hi all!

I've recently fitted a Metal Mule 2 into 1 exhaust to my XT660R, so needed a suitable bashplate. I looked at Metal Mule and OTR's offerings but wasn't fussed on the styling and they didn't really look substantial enough. I'd heard a few people had successfully fitted the Adventure Spec Tenere bashplate to the R with some 'small modifications.' Unfortunately I couldn't find any details on exactly what this involved. So, despite my pretty poor track record when it comes to working on the bike I took the plunge and decided I'd wing it.

When the AS Bashplate arrived I offered it up to the R.

The front mounting point fitted with no modifications needed.

The rear/bottom mount was about a couple of centimeters below the existing engine mount.

So, a trip to the shops later I returned with a strip of 4 mm by 25 mm rolled steel bar. Below is the finished product, painted and along side a new 140 mm M10 bolt to replace the existing one which would have been too short.

The measurements I used:

Here's the brackets fitted in place

There was quite a bit of play when I attached the bashplate to my new brackets so I added a couple of washers to act as spacers.

The finished product.

I'm sure all of the above is pretty obvious stuff but I thought it would be nice for anyone thinking about fitting one of these to an R to know what kit to get in advance.

Also I had some nice sunny pictures of my bike that i wanted to show off!

Well done mate. Good write-up which is sure to help others in the future.

Exhaust looks good. Bash plate looks good. Your mechanical trials, tribulations and efforts certainly seem to be paying off - you've got a handsome looking bike now.

xt660z bashplate to xt660r

New to this forum. It looks like a great addition. Does anybody know if this combo will fit on 660r with standard underslung pipes with some mods to adapt brackets if required.
