Due to the gearbox failure I'm looking for the engine replacement for my Tenere. I'm checking ebay but so far I have found one 10 years old without any mention of mileage and one from 2010 that looks like guy was parking bike overnight in the river. I just want to check on this forum if there is anyone who might have one.

I have found one engine from Yamaha xt660x 2006.Anyone knows if are there any diferences I need to be aware between engines from tenere and xt660x ?

As long as you use your ancillaries, loom and ECU, you will be fine to use an earlier engine from an X.

The only significant differences between 2006 and 2009 motors lie in the control systems, not the actual engine: ECU, ignition, and the lack of any O2 sensor for closed loop fuelling. None of which will of course be a problem if you use the stock Tenere parts.

Did you fit an engine from an X?

Thinkng of doing the same do you know if the R engines are also the same?

XT660R, XT660X, MT-03 will all definitely work as an engine donor for the Tenere.

I'm pretty damn sure Derbi Mulhacen and Aprilia Pegaso versions will be fine too (if you can find one).
