Transmission noise
I just replaced chain and sprockets on my Tenere to new 525 sprockets and 525 O ring chain that had very little prior use plus put in poly cush drive 'rubbers', bearings all seemed fine but now there is a pronounced whine coming from the bike somewhere. Chain is adjusted correctly I reckon, can't think of any other reason for this noise. It's quite annoying :-(

The other thing is, did your bike have the OE front sprocket fitted (with integral rubber damper) before you changed to the 525 kit. If it did, then you will notice more transmission noise, whether 525 or otherwise. The little rubber ring on the stock Yamaha sprocket does make quite a bit of difference to sound transmission. Could just be normal of course. I always find a new C&S kit makes slightly more noise than the old one that came off anyway, just because its newer, tighter and not bedded in. 525 chains seem to make more noise than 520s by nature of the fact there's more metal to metal contact too. |

Chain was off my Transalp that was written off, had less than 2K miles on it but not sure which way round it was so could be reversed - hadn't thought of that. Front sprocket must have been non Yamaha as no rubber ring/damper on it. I may refit the 520 C&S and see if the whine disappears. I don't like it - sounds like a bearing on the way out, but they all seem smooth and free of play.
