New ignition
Just been offered a ten with a broken key in ignition, owner put wrong yamaha key in mistakenly.
How hard will it be to replace with new lock and barrel. Will it be a main dealer job for re chipping? Likely cost?? 2009 model Ta Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Gee I hope it's nothing to do with photograghicsafaris Ten that was nicked from Rochester the other day?
That was a 2011 bike, but does all the paperwork add up & vin plates look untampered with? |

Does it come with a full set of keys? Crucially the red programming key. If it's got the red key with it then it won't be too much of an issue to fit a new ignition barrel and reprogramme the keys to suit, but ONLY if you get the red key with it.
Biggest ball-ache is the shear bolts that hold the ignition lock assembly in place. Usually they need to be carefully drilled out. Sometimes you can get lucky by punching two depressions in the bolt heads opposite each other and using a drift in each of the depressions made, gently tap the bolts round. This method depends entirely on how corroded the threads are and requires some patience. Assuming it runs and rides OK, I reckon, if you get the red key and all the paperwork stacks up, together with the price being right (i.e. cheap!) then go for it... |

First question I asked was about the red key. That's there with 2 normal keys

Then the big question is ... deciding how much are you prepared to pay for it?
