2007 XTX Cut out on my way home

Hey

Was riding home from and was doing about 30 suddenly the bike chugged then cut out could get it start again ........ Also took a handful of extra turns to get it started at the start of the journey ?

Managed to get a friend to get jump cables and managed to get it started to get it home but started chugging at the bottom of my street got it going again tho felt pretty lumpy for the last 100 yards ?

I'm think battery is screwed ?

Battery wont make a lot of difference unless completely flat? Then does it matter while running?

I had this happen on the first ride, pretty sensitive to a dirty spark plug..?

Phoned my mechanic and he said it sounds like damp ether in the coil or the ht lead :/ and to say oil on it to see if it makes it any better ..... And if not to book it in and they will have a look

It is not unheard of for XTs to leak high voltage at coil/HT lead, particularly the connection between the two. When it's dark, can you see any tracing (blue cotton'like threads of electrical charge) on the coil body or HT lead?

I wouldn't put oil on it though. Give it a spray of WD40 or similar to displace any moisture. Better still, dry it all out and coat the joints with silicone grease to seal it against future water ingress (if that's what the problem is).

Haven't seen any blue sparks probably cause I'm to busy shouting at the bike tho I have sprayed the coil and ht lead and spark plug with wd40 lol till I can get a better look at it lol

ACF50 isn't really designed for this purpose, you would be better off getting hold of some silicone grease and coating the coil and HT lead with it. High temp silicone grease is designed with this use in mind.

BTW - How do you know the ebay seller was gay?
