Buying an XT660Z
Good day.
I currently do NOT own a XT660. About a year ago, I started a slow but steady search for a replacement for my Kawasaki Versys 650. My riding friends and interests have involved heavily towards touring, or adventure touring, in these last few years. I have completed a handful of epic 2 week rides including the Trans Labrador on the Versys. The Versys is now cleaned up, freshened up, and put away for our intense Canadian winter. The Versys will be sold next spring. Like most other Canadians I have a lot of free time this winter to think about the next bike. I have drawn up a list of what I want/need from the next bike. As I scan through the manufacturers websites, I am shocked to find that NOBODY makes this bike. The XT660Z checks a lot of boxes though, and so far, graces the top of the list. The trouble is, I live in Canada. My local Yamaha dealer does not know what a XT660Z is, and therefore cannot sell me one, and there are no used examples in our classifieds. I currently have this picture set as my computer desktop wallpaper: Yes I know this is heavily modified with USD forks etc., but it is one of the nicest bikes I have seen. Before I scrap the idea of owning one, do any of you guys have experience with exporting a bike? Or even parts for that matter. I have built a few bikes in the past, and would savour an XT build. Is there a source to look for scrap or high mileage XTs? Your forum looks great, would like to be a part of it. Thanks. |

pssst... you are part of our forum, if you weren't you couldn't have written your first post above, trust me on this I'm the one who put it together You might not find a dealer selling you one in Canada, but your neighbors in USA which had the same problem have ventured into buying them in Europe and have them shipped in a crate back to their home. Other have come to Europe bought the bike and traveled all the way back with it! That is determination. But it goes to show if you want something really bad, there are numerous ways to obtain them. |

That's a nice looking Tenere! I hope you can find a way to get yourself one. I looked on the HUBB forum some while ago about exporting/importing bikes and there was some good info there if you persevere.

I had a Versys too a while back - hated it! Found the suspension atrocious - XTZ floats along by comparison. Good luck with your search. |
