G'day

Hi guys,

Newbie here, I owned a 1996 660 tenere years ago and sold it in 2006. After all these years I decided it's time to get back on a bike again so treated myself to a new (2012) 660 tenere for my birthday last month. Loving it but for some reason I remember my old 96 model was a lot gruntier? Maybe it's just because it's still new and I haven't ridden in 8 years. On that point, what are you more experienced fellas out there's thoughts on the akrapovic (think that's spelled right) exhaust system?

Cheers

Pete

Welcome on board Pete.

I know what you mean. The reason for the apparent lack of grunt can be blamed on the greenies. The fuel injection and emissions control systems make for very lean running on most modern bikes, and the XTZ is no exception. The good thing is, the fuelling can be sorted (for surprisingly little outlay)!

Fitting one of Kev's O2 controllers will instantly buy you an extra thousand rpm at the bottom end - http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=14746 (current version from post #165)

With the addition of Kev's fuelling mod (and maybe a more free-breathing airfilter) things will get even better - http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=194

I had one (note the had). It's a nice looking exhaust and sounds sweet, but it's heavy, expensive and more importantly, still contains cats, which nullifies a lot of the benefits of fitting an aftermarket system. IMHO you'd be far better initially ploughing your funds into sorting the fuelling out.

G'day, g'day. As others have stated you can make them a lot sharper. Twin Scorpions look and sound well.

Welcome.
