Hello from a newbie in Abingdon, UK

Hi all,

Just bought myself a 2009 XT660z Tenere so I can practice ready for my holiday in South Africa in November this year as part of my 50th birthday celebrations. Got the wife, lad and a couple of mates riding XT's from Cape Town over some spectacular looking mountain ranges!

First impression of the bike, having only ridden road bikes (GpZ900r, FJ1200, ST1100) is that it is ACE! I love the riding position and being so high-up. Now I've bought a sheepskin, even the seat is comfy.

I've done lots of international touring in cars, but I am hoping that my wife loves SA so much, we can get her a bike and head over to Morocco perhaps next year.

Anyway, great forum and hope to meet up with some of you guys in the future.

Cheers
CD

Welcome mate.

Wish I could get my missus interested in something like your planning!

The SA trip sounds like a smashing idea for a 50th birthday bash.

Welcome aboard! That sounds like a fantastic plan although I, too, am rather envious as my wife is as uninterested in motor cycles as it's possible to be. In fact, if I didn't receive so many packages and corresponding credit card charges, I don't think she'd realise I had one. You're a lucky fella!
