do I really need crash bars ?

I mean aren't there plastic side covers supposed to protect the tank etc?
I want just to minimize adds on to necessary minimum. Besides they add to weight too, right?

I don't think crashbars are needed. Tenere is crashing very well. But it's worth mentioning i used to have adventure spec bashplate with small bars and renthal fatbar on my tenere, and those two, plus acerbis hanguards and standard side protectors on the tank was virtually un-destructable.
