After seeing this thread about BMW 650GS forks failures I started to worry about that part in motorcycle. Have something like that ever happened to yamaha bike???

I don't know if you've seen this post, very scary:

Not seen or heard of anything like that on an XT?

The casting on an XT is much more beefy at that point. Also I think the BMW forks are only 41mm too?

However, it is not uncommon of for over-tightened pinch bolts to cause the axle mounting hole to crack on the right hand leg on XTs. They don't need tightening up nearly as much as a lot of people think!

Yes, you're right, and I am one of the guilty ones. I'll have to be more careful.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be a common problem with the BMWs. Admittedly, I didn't read the whole thread. The armchair lawyers got a bit repetitive.

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised about stuff like this. Everyone wants bikes to be lighter/faster/stronger and cost peanut money. Factories have to make money...

I don't agree, they have to make money but not like this. This is serious safety flaw. Imagine going 100 km/h and your forks collapse....

I guess I want bike with steel frame and forks only, no aluminium S$%#t.
What xt frame is made of?

Steel fork bottoms. Now that's proper old school. Maybe you should perhaps take a look at a pre-1970 BSA or Triumph then!

It's steel (with alloy swing arm on <2007 XTX and all XTZs).

Sorry, you misunderstood me. I was being sarcastic. There is no way, ever, that shoddy, cheap workmanship or design should be tolerated in any vehicle.
