Fitting a Zumo 550

I'm going to try mounting my Garmin Zumo 550 using the bar above the clocks so that the gps sits just above the clocks. I don't have any RAM mounts, so need to buy a kit.

Had anyone tried this? I have a feeling it may not provide enough clearance to get the sat nav above the clocks. http://www.motorcyclemounts.co.uk/Pr...8/Product.aspx

If I go down this route with a more traditional arm and ball setup, then does anyone know which length arm would do what I want? I'd measure it myself, but I'm still waiting for my bike to be delivered!

Many thanks

Phil,

I have a zumo 660 which I think uses the same ram mount out of the box. Mine fits perfectly onto the bar above the clocks.

It just touches the screen and the light cover thing. It looks great and is central.

I have a zumo 220 with the original garmin kit

You can see some pictures on this link if they do now show directly

http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/forum_...ID=71856#71856

Original screen and Garmin Ram Mount - i've cut it a bit shorter on the lower end so it don't touch the instruments.

Higher screen and scottoiler fitted below:

Link with better picture of the ram mount: http://www.expressmounts.com/garmin-...-assembly.html

It is also supposed to fit the 550.

My setup is pretty stable for tarmac and gravel but would probably not last long in a rally ....

Just curious - what kind of riding do you do where you benefit from both GPS's ?

(I've had my gpsmap60 since ~2006 but since I got the pony and the zumo last year i only use it on bicycles or for tracking openwater swimming)

Ordered

I think I may have found a neat little mount for the sat nav mount bar, or for the cross brace on the handle bars. We'll see when it arrives:

http://shop.buybits.com/ultimate-add...sku-14950.html

I've coupled it with a short RAM arm and mount plate for my Garmin 550 powered cradle.
