Quick question

Hi Guys,

Before I take the plunge into buying an XTX660X, has the surging been sorted out on the MY 2012 onwards. I have chance of doing a deal on a 2012 or I could just get a 2014 model if the surging has been sorted.
Cheers
Gary

My 2012 XTR suffers from this, and I believe they all do, to a different degree. Basically, standard stociometric ratio 14,7:1 for the cat to work is too lean to fuel these engines at part load...

Oh, so I guess I'm better off going for the 2012 instead of a 2014 to avoid the warranty been void once the mods are done that need doing to sort the surging out

The fuelling will be much the same whether 2012 or 2014.

Good plan - exactly what I'd do if I was faced with the same choice, particularly as I'd assume the 2012 model will be a lot cheaper.

Well I'll be doing a deal on the XT660X with my 2012 Hornet. But the the choice of swapping my bike which is an excellent starter and runner etc to a 2012 problem XT660 with surging etc is still at the back of my mind. I know there's mods that will help with the surging but I'm hoping I ain't going to regret it....

Get a few miles under your belt on a good test ride to see if it's your cup of tea before you buy, try to ignore the surging as i'm sure by now you've read enough on here to know it can be sorted for a few sovs.
