Ten Seat Cover

I'm probably the only person on the planet to admit to having issues with the standard Tenere seat but that dip that locks the rider's buttocks into one position can be a bit tiresome over a few 4-600 mile days. Yes I've done the stand-up thingy as well but 80-90mph while stood on the pegs on the autobahn doesn't go down well the the traffic cops.

Ten days spent riding in the Outer Hebrides in monsoon conditions in Sept 2012 was the final straw despite my Goretex lined Heine Gericke gear. A couple of weeks after I returned to base I was carted off to hospital with the blues and twos flashing and it took five ops over an eighteen month period to sort out my anal abcess and fistula problems. The last op was 3rd Jan this year and I'm getting to the stage that I can sit on my ass again in reasonable comfort.

OK - so I'm fixed but what about the Ten? I first tried her with a gel pad under the standard seat cover which wasn't much of a success. My latest ploy is to put more work into the gel pad shape and fit a nice leather cover over the whole shooting match.

I tried her out at the weekend and so far so good ---

The profile is slightly different and allows a bit of fore and aft movement and the best thing I can say about my test was that I hardly noticed the seat at all and for the most part forgot I was supposed to be checking it out.

I'm sure an experienced seat mechanic would have made a better job but for me ---

It's a result!

seat

I will post details soon Phil. At the moment I'm chasing BTWifi signals which are scarce in my part of the world. They should have my home broadband sorted sometime tomorrow which will bring me back into the land of the living.
I'm not one of these guys who can do a world tour on one pair of underpants so I'm pretty sure lack of personal hygene wasn't at the root of my problems. I think it was long days locked into that saddle in hot climates with the underseat exhausts cooking my butt that was the main culprit.
The ten days riding and sitting around in wet gear waiting for ferries that don't run to schedule or in the worst case don't run at all was the clincher.
cheers for now - Don
