Hi all - XTZ

Hi

Just bought an 2013 xt660z tenere, picking it up tomorrow, cant wait.

Hoping to use it as a all rounder for commuting, touring and some off road work. Also have a 08 ZX6R for when I wanna go quick.

Would love some pointers on what to do first with the tenere, both mods and free stuff i.e. greasing apparently etc

Welcome on board mate.

As youve got a fairly new bike, I shouldnt get too hung up on the grease issue just yet ride it and enjoy it as it is this summer (assuming theres no obvious play or squeaks). I pulled my swingarm and linkage at 12K miles (18 months old) and, although sparsely greased, it was all in good nick and there was just enough grease in there to keep things in order, but it wouldnt have lasted much longer. IMHO Id wait till the 12K mile major service and re-grease everything then swingarm pivots (not listed officially to do at this service), linkage and head races.

I fitted a Scottoiler from new (first thing I did) and the original chain and sprockets nearly made 25K miles, so that might be worth thinking about, especially if youre year-round commuting.

With the benefit of hindsight, the two mods I would have perhaps done earlier would have been the cush drive mod and fitting Kevs O2 controller they make the bike so much smoother and more tractable.

As for other mods Well, the list is endless, depends what you want out of the bike and how deep your pockets are!

Ride it, get a feel for it and you'll soon enough work out what you need and what you don't...
