Roll bag size recommendation

Anyone got an opinion, or even a picture, of a 49L large roll bag on a XT? Ortlieb for example.

I'm trying to get a good understanding of suitable volume for roll bags to take for this summers long trip. Ive seen 59L+49L mounted on a XT660Z. Large, but doable.

Im planning for a 35L on the rear rack with light stuff, and a 49L on the passenger pillion. More specific the Ortlieb Moto Rackpack 49L and Ortlieb Moto Dry bag 35L. They will be mounted with the terrific Motonaut Adventure (motonaut.eu). Im intending to test mount a 60L+20L to get a better understanding of the size, but that wont be accurate.

Ive already decided to go with two roll bags and nothing else, as other luggage mounting solution doesn't suit my requirements.

Dont know on the size of the bag which would suit your needs / things you plan to pack up. but if you havnt decided yet on the manufacturer try Lomo:

+1 for LOMO bags - they're superb value.

I have a 40L dry bag (not the motorcycle specific version which has webbing loops). The standard bag is 8 and is the perfect size for camping gear and stuff that you want to get out all in one go.

I also have one of their 40L roll top dry holdalls, which is bloody brilliant for 21. Ideal for shorter trips when I don't want to take hard cases. Much easier to find individual bits and pieces in it as opposed to an end opening dry bag where you tend to find the thing you want is always buried down at the wrong end!

BTW - They also do 60L versions of both the above bags, but they are massive and a bit unwieldy.

Thanks for the advice regarding LOMO bags. To bad they dont have anything between 40L and 60L. The Ortlieb 49L + a 31L is pricey, but I really like their "moto" model with valve and extra rugged material.

Depends on what you want to carry and how long your going for. I've a 40ltr and 80 ltr roll bag, 40 ltr does nice for small weekend camps with a top box, 80 for bigger camps with top box or big tours with b n bs or hotels.

Rucksack straps incredibly useful when you are going in and out of hotels, etc.
