Thumbs up Interesting ...

I stumbled across this on a mates Facebook page.

Not sure if I'd use it as my main cooker, but a good substitute if you are ever in need of a small stove.

This one runs from Surgical Spirit, but I'll bet it works great with Meths or even Petrol if needed.

Very nice. You can even build it on the spot in case of emergency and use the some Ten's petrol to lit it up.

Now that I really really like. Thanks for sharing that. I feel the need to go and make one over lunch. Not sure about petrol but it would certainly be handy if it did work. Meths and surgical spirit are widely available and indeed carrying a small quantity of surgical spirit is handy on long trip both for first aid applications and its also really good for general cleaning.

On my sons return from school we set about making one of these. We used a normal 330 ml drinks can. It took literally 5 minutes and worked a peach. With a one litre camping pan with half a litre of water it took just 4 minutes (give or take a few seconds) to boil. If we had a lid it would have been quicker yet. You do need a flat surface given the narrow 'cooker' base and the resulting instability. However . . .

If it just boiling for one, then there is no reason why it cant be a main cooker. For those of us old enough to have used a mentholated spirit Trangia, this is no slower or different (except the wind shield) and certainly cheaper.

Still not sure if I am brave enough to try petrol. Anyone fancy the challenge? If I do I might wear the welding gloves and mask.

Top idea!

I could do that - I usually have beer and alcohol and a sharp knife when I go camping... I wonder whether you could power it with rum? I reckon the OP Bundy Rum I use to warm up would also fire that baby...

Not sure I'd use petrol though...liable to take off your eyebrows
