I have had a look into getting some polyurethane ones made up, but the setup cost is just too much to make it worth while unfortunately. I think I'm going to take up Petenz's idea of getting some urethane sheet and cut some out. So far I've just changed them every time I replace the rear tyre; small price to pay to keep things running smoothly. I use the pattern ones which are about 20 as far as I recall. Original gearing is 15/45, so at 15/47 you're running a bit lower already. Going up one more tooth on the back to 15/48 is exactly the same as 14/45. I've just bought a 525 chain to fit based a few reviews I've read saying folk have found them easier on the cush drive and sprocket carrier bearing. I'm always open to trying something new, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I've moved it and changed the title from "crush drive" to "cush drive"! |

Cheers Pleiades
I must stop compairing the XT to the DR it's just the trip to Maroc last week it didn't seem as manageable as the DR !!!! I MUST STOP COMPAIRING !!! I probably stick to the 15/47 set up then but as said on a 525 , the DR runs a 525 !!! I MUST STOP COMPAIRING !!! and is just so much more meatier and last ages It makes sence to just keep changing the crush rubber , but this has never happed to any other bikes i owned , TO THIS EXTENT!!! Had a quick look and OTR are doing full sets for 28.90 , have you found them cheaper anywhere ? May be worth getting 3 or 4 sets as i normally do 2 tyres a year if not more, perhaps i should be more gentle with the right wrist NAAAAAAAWWW Phil Not me but i was following I didn't fall off Pablo and Rich , 2 Polish guys i met up and rode with in Maroc

Hi Phil..
Glad you got back all OK.I got back day before yesterday. We met the Polish dudes coming back not long after you guys scooted on and they stated the feche-feche was too difficult to traverse at Ramliait didn't hamper us so they must have been afraid lol !! Found a great single track over the Atlas that never ended and up to 2000m altitude I digress.I ordered a set of rubbers from OTR last year and they didn't last too well..about 5000kms. I then went ahead and mounted inner tube squares cut out to pack the play and they have been on for about another 10000kms without issue. . |

Yep i'll do the inner tube thing again anyway , or my even try siliconing the whole lot in so every gap is full!!!
This may work but it's easy enough to peel out if it distroys its self Sound like you had a good one got home early last Fri/Sat proper poorly ended up in bed for 2 days Will catch up later Phil

I ve had that set up up for a while firstly the bigger rear sprocket is an improvement off road especially in very rocky descents, but on road it's not so good. If you commute in an urban area I would not change.
The larger chain is a safer option in my view. With the added thickness I think it's probably less likely to a brake and b derail. With this set up I've done double the mileage with much less ware on the Cush drives |
