Can someone explain the DNA filters please.

I'm going to do stage 1 & 2 but have I got this right ?

Stage 1 (the high flow replacement for the original like K&N for example)

Stage 2 (the ring that goes in the top to replace the snorkel)

Now assuming I have that right I am confused:

Why would I put in a high flow air filter and then restrict the flow of air going in by putting in the ring that has what appear to be a smaller aperture?

I'm obviously missing something so can someone explain.

Is the stage 2 ring just there to replace the snorkel and hold the filter down ? Can I just cut my snorkel off completely and use that instead of the stage 2.

Stage 3 is the open sided to the airbox right ? don't really want that as I want the highest possible wading depth.

Thanks all in advance.

p.s. I am all kev modded out and have a single MTC so these filters are the last part of my intended mods to the engine, can't wait...

Have a look at http://www.redbikejohn.com/Tenere%20...s%20Review.htm

He did something different but to a similar end result.

I haven't done this or the DNA mods but I have read of people preferring the foam type filters if they will be riding in dusty conditions or on an rtw trip when they can just wash out the filters and re-oil when necessary.

Ah, because the Stage 2 ring has a wider opening than the snorkel.

You can cut out the snorkel, however what's left is a little too flimsy for the DNA S1 filter and you may well end up with gaps... The DNA S2 is very stiff, expensive but worth it in my opinion.

+1 It also has smooth rounded edges which will help with airflow too.

Just to be sure......

So I just installed all 3 stages DNA filters. On my tenere 660 Z , 2011 model
I have single can Akrapovich.

Is it necessary to get power commander and remaping ????
Or anything else ?? As iam scared that something will happened to my engine.

Note: now with everything on.....the engine runs beautifully ..very happy with the mods.

Please for your advice/opinion

You'll need to do something with the fuelling. With a stage 3 setup it will almost certainly be running wag too lean.

Either Kev's fuel mod, or a PC is must. An O2 controller would be a useful addition too.
