Newbie - Why should I buy a XT660Z Tenere?

Hi my name is Ian T-J

In 1990 I rode my XT600 (with larger plastic tank) 5500 miles from Northern England to Turkey and back.

It was a great trip, but the bike was so hard to start on the kickstarter and very hard to bump start.

Please tell me why should I buy a new XT660Z Tenere????

Im still riding bikes, one of my more recent road trips can be seen at :-

Thanks Ian T-J

Why not ?

Depends on what you wants it to do ...

I bought one as a good compromise on a budget (vehicle taxes are horrible in Denmark. The price of a new one is 13000/20000$ and i saved quite a bit by finding a 2 year old that has only done 1600km.

I would have likes an extra piston and 50% more power but like that it is lighter and easier to handle than my old 750. But since it is an ABS version it has also a lot less ground clearance, but i don't do much real offroad i will probably not be a problem. I prefer "greenlaning" over mudholes anyhow :-)

A new tenere will do almost anything your old one could with the comfort of an electric starter :-)

Yes Majland

Thanks for your reply.

I need to sell another bike I have, then over the winter I will try and find a ZT660Z and of course the electric start is a must have these days!

I assume there are no starting problems with the new XT660?

No. Only stopping problems - you won't want to get off!

You shouldn't, they are rubbish.

Pitiful tank range,
Abysmal road manners,
They get stuck on a bowling green,
Very few upgrades/modifications available,
Unreliable,
Dodgy owners club......
No history for these bikes covering any distances,

Of course, I might not be telling you the truth

Welcome aboard fella. I saw that video a while back - think it was on another forum? Brilliant film and your lad is hilarious! What a great trip to take together.

You should test ride one first, then your question about why you should buy one will be answered.
