Split Hose!

hello,

I just noticed that the hose coming out of the air box ( runs behind the rear brake fluid reservoir ) leading into an odd plastic thing?! is split...

what is this hose? what does it do? is it air/coolant/oil? it's only a couple inches long...

I opened up the air box and found the 'floor' of it had some oil residue around where this pipe leads into the airbox.

I have been looking at haynes manual but can't see anything about it.

cheers

It is the crankcase breather hose. The funny plastic box is the oil trap.

You really should replace the hose as it will allow unfiltered air into the engine/crankcase. I doubt the OE part is very expensive, but you could make one out of any breather hose of the correct diameter from Halfords or your local motor factors.

The genuine hose is 8.55 - http://www.yamahaMotorcycleSpares.co...11670000&uid=0
