leaking raidiator cap

Hi there,

Yesterday is was driving on a hot day (27 degrees is a hot day for the Netherlands.. :-) )
After a tankstop i noticed that the XTX had losed a little bit cooling liquid. After a little inspection i saw i came from the radiatorcap.

The bike was hotter than normal, but definitely not overheated.
In my opinion the cooling system is a pressurised system and the liquid should overflow on the cooling liquid reservoir.

Do i have to replace the radiatorcap or is this normal?

I would first make sure your radiator fan is working correctly + have a look at this thread.

All this type of info is in the modification index.

I checked the following items:
1) diag: run the fan through the diag screen (Zone 51): works fine.
2) diag: the fan is coming on at the correct temp around 105C on the dash (zone 06): works fine.
3) my radiator cap has no date stamp. But it looks like the old one. (The bike is 2005 model)

The cap is leaking when the temp is above about 95-100 degrees. So the problem is a faulty radiator cap.

Tomorrow i order a new one, that must solve the problem.

Thanks Kev..

I have replaced the radiator cap twice withing 6 years I own the bike. I could see dry drops of cooling liquid all around the cap. When I bought a new one, all was fine.
