Hiya no, I have not heard that one. Yamaha are about to launch a new MT09 which is a new 3 cylinder engine and I think it is 850cc, sure a 900 XT would fill the gap nicely between the 660 and the 1200.....

I guess you've seen the video thats doing the rounds again.
The video was done before the 1200 came out and everyone was expecting a 750/850 Tenere, but the 1200 arrived. Now they have a new engine I would hope there will be an XT900Z, but when ????????? Nick. |

There have been rumours of a 900cc XT not sure whether a Tenere or a Supermoto XTX style, and these rumours always tend to materialize in the end. After all 4 years ago the XT1200Z Super Tenere also started as a rumour and next thing you know in 2011 they've released the very thing.
Yamaha has a lot of competition from KTM in the 900 range, so I reckon that is where we might be heading rather than a Tenere 900 when we already have a 1200 Super Tenere, I see little point in designing a midrange Tenere more power and weight can cause havoc off road, that's why the 660Z Tenere has been such a success. |

The Tiger is a massive seller, it has it's flaws as a 'go anywhere' bike, too many weak points to mention, but it's still a great road/gravel bike (I have one keeping the Tenere company). Considering the 660 Z and the Tiger, there is a huge overlap in ability, the tiger is better on the open road, the Tenere is better on rough roads.

Interestingly in the last week Yamaha has revealed a crossplane twin cylinder engine, which is very likely to be around the 650cc mark and putting out somewhere in the region of 70bhp.
http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2013/...anese-meeting/ Could it be that the XT660Z could evolve into a twin cylinder machine, to compliment the XT1200Z, with a three cylinder MT-09 engined Tenere sitting in the middle... |
